Stuck for Balcony Styling Ideas? There’s Now A Dubai-based Business That Specialises In Outdoor Decor
From terraces to porches, Bespoke Balconies DXB are the local experts when it comes to designing outdoor spaces, big and small
Fairy lights emanating a warm glow, comfortable low seating designed for lounging, swing chairs swaying in the breeze all fringed by vibrant plants, these are just some of the things we picture when designing our dream outdoor space.
Dubai residents wait all year round for this time of year. Unlike the rest of the world where socialising is moving indoors for us the outdoor season has just begun. The urge to spend evenings lounging on the balcony under the stars, surrounded by friends, food and laughter can no longer be contained. Sadly, cost and space limitations jerk us back into reality. Enter Bespoke Balconies – a homegrown local design and styling business.

Speaking candidly to team Bazaar, owner Georgina Griffin explains how being sent into the lockdown due to the pandemic forced her to explore her outdoor space options.
After all Emirates flights were grounded, Georgina (who was cabin crew at the time) went into lockdown with her husband in their one-bedroom flat in Dubai Marina. Their small balcony was the only outdoor space they had access to, so with free time on her hands she decided to completely revamp it, storying the process on Instagram along the way.

With space as a limitation, her inner creative landed on using wooden pallets – almost a signature of the brand now – which could be customized. In a bid to ensure that the whole space was entirely bespoke, Georgina even purchased a sewing machine to sew her own cushions, devouring many YouTube tutorials along the way.
The response on social was so great that business from friends and family came in immediately, leading her to the conclusion that her hobby would be an excellent part-time gig. A few weeks later the devastating news that she had been made redundant was what gave her the much-needed push to turn Bespoke Balconies into a full-time entrepreneurship venture.

Georgina’s compassion is evident in her offering. From online shopping options to getting a stylist booked in, “glowing up” an existing space or having a designer creating bespoke furniture specifically for you, the options take into consideration all budgets. The most popular option Georgina tells us is Boho Bali Vibes.
“This look can be created with white rustic chic furniture topped with a lot of neutral-toned cushions and accented by macrame cushions. If there is enough space a macrame swing chair would be the perfect addition. With a nice round jute rug to tie it all together and battery powered fairy lights and candles creating the ideal glow when the sun goes down,” she says.

With over 250 balcony transformations under her belt, we are keen to soak in all the knowledge she imparts, “As much as I love real plants, I would definitely recommend having some good quality artificial plants as the climate in Dubai makes it difficult to keep plants alive.” The best part of the whole process is that you can take your new balcony with you if you change house – just ask the team to come back and customize to size if need be.
Bespoke Balconies journey has only just begun, Georgina’s dream is to have her own warehouse cum office space, decorated by her team to reflect the fun company spirit. Plans to diversify into interiors, offices and events are also in the dream pipeline. Watch this space.
