Harper’s Bazaar Interiors Awards 2015 | The Winners
Recognising the achievements of furniture designers, design brands and retail furniture stores in the region, a glittering night offered a platform to celebrate the best, most innovative and successful players in the industry, as nominated by their peers and readers
The Middle East Design Awards has celebrated the best brands and designers within the region’s interior design sector, with an esteemed judging panel awarding and recognising an impressive line-up of nominees at the prestigious Jumeirah Emirates Towers.
The highly-anticipated Emerging Designer of the Year Award went to Ammar Kalo for his technologically advanced designs, most notably his ‘Stratum’ chair, which takes advantage of innovative fabrication technologies, creating two interlocking, folding parts. The Emerging Designer of the Year Award is not only one of the most prized awards of the night, but also an aspirational achievement for new designers to set the benchmark for up-and-coming creative talent.
Dubai-based architect and designer, Viktor Udzenija, designed this year’s sculptural trophy, made from marble and steel. Reimagined through his contemporary design DNA and upholding the spirit of the awards, he created 12 distinct and collectible designs, carved from varying gradients of marble, from white to black, with each one therefore unique to the winner.
“The Middle East’s Design Awards offer a rare opportunity for luxury brands and designers, both established and emerging, an unrivaled platform from which to gain recognition for the visionary skills they bring to the region, and for helping raise the profile of design in the Middle East within the international scene,” commented spokesperson, Eleanor Joslin, continuing, “This year marks the Middle East’s Design Award’s second annual ceremony, and is once again part of the official programme of Downtown Design, situated amid the inaugural Dubai Design Week, making the awards an integral part of the design calendar. It is exciting to be part of the burgeoning design scene in the Middle East, and to celebrate both prestigious brands and promising next-generational talent.”
