When Jennifer and David Black founded Wear The House, their goal first and foremost was to spread positivity and inspire a community of like-minded creatives – not just launch another company in Dubai’s ever-growing design market. That’s exactly what their newest concept, Jungle Bungalow, set out to achieve. Electric, fun and visually stimulating at every corner, the pink-dominated space acts as a family home, but also as a work and events space that calls artist, designers and other entrepreneurs together to collaborate – rather than compete.

The vibrant venue in Dubai blends fashion, art and interior design for a physical representation of the brand’s core mission and vision: “We believe there is an intrinsic link between how you dress and how you dress your home, or ‘wear the house’. This is our driving force,” Jennifer smiles. “We think that the Jungle Bungalow can show our clients how to escape the ordinary and uplift their mood through the use of colour, pattern, art and design, and ultimately elevate their interiors beyond what they think is possible.”

The husband-wife duo have studied the powerful connection between personal style and interior expression, encouraging others to embrace their individuality and discover their happy place. With a passion to revolutionise interior design, Jennifer and David pride themselves on conceptualising a community-driven brand committed to sparking creativity and joy.

There were two big inspirations for Jungle Bungalow. The first came from a culmination of experiences over the past few years. David and Jennifer explain, “We were inspired by our travels to Mexico and Sri Lanka, both jungle paradises, very different from one another but each with incredibly rich heritage and unique cultural stylings”. And second, the couple’s belief in the fulfilment that community and collaboration can bring both on a personal and business level.

The brand’s aesthetic is a loud and proud visual celebration of culture, art and, most importantly, colour. “The power of colour cannot be underestimated,” says Jennifer. David adds, “There are a multitude of peer-reviewed studies that prove how colour can have a positive impact on both mental and physical wellbeing.” By using colour in clever ways and pairing it with art and furniture, the designers aim to uplift moods and elevate experiences. “When people walk through their front door at the end of a long day, they want to feel happy and relaxed. We truly believe that the use of vibrant colour and pattern can create these feelings, even after the toughest of days.”

The biggest factor to consider when selecting artwork for any space? “How the art makes you feel,” answers Jennifer. “If you are buying a piece of art that you will look at every day, it should give you a feeling of joy, either through its sheer beauty or because it reminds you of someone or somewhere that you love.” But art doesn’t always mean a painting on the wall, as David says: “It can come in many forms such as a statement rug, a piece of furniture, a vintage textile piece or a silk scarf.”

This is why the pair encourage more people to consider experimenting beyond the confines of familiarity when redecorating their home or workspace, with no restraints or desire to conform to the norm. By exploring the link between a client’s personal style and their likes and dislikes in the worlds of fashion, art and celebrity, Jennifer and David hone in on how they can best bloom a more daring approach to design.
