Bringing The Garden Inside: Loewe Launches Plant-Inspired Home Scents
The Spanish luxury fashion house has unveiled home scents, designed to evoke feelings of utter serenity
Home scents are designed to exude a comforting sensation, one which transports you to a place of unwavering joy. Some scents can evoke pure nostalgia through familiar aromas, evoking emotion. Inspired by vegetable gardens, Loewe has just unveiled a dynamic Home Scents Collection, including candles, wax candleholders, home fragrances and rattan diffusers.

The special collection recalls the documentation of plant life by artists working during the Age of Discovery, namely the cyanotypes of algae by the British artist Anna Atkins, the illustrations of South American flora by Spanish explorer Mutis and the work of Ogawa Kazumasa, who pioneered photomechanical printing as a means to document the flowers of Japan.

Large cypress balls, small honeysuckle, medium liquorice, small juniper berry. All scented candles, LOEWE
Taking hints from Creative Director Jonathan Anderson’s inspirations, Loewe’s in-house perfumer Nuria Cruelles has mastered a number of plant essences as their own standalone scent including honeysuckle, beetroot, juniper berry, tomato leaves, coriander, liquorice, luscious pea, oregano, cypress balls and ivy.
The handcrafted ceramic candles are inspired by Greek drinking vessels from the 5th century BC and the wax is derived from organic ingredients. The packaging of each candle, featuring the plant’s flower and colour, has been created in collaboration with Franco-Swiss photographer Erwan Frotin.

Take the beetroot essence as an example, it falls under the faint, sweet category and was extracted from the plant’s rhizome, and from the root itself. The collection honours woody and herbaceous notes over firmly floral ones. Keeping the current global pandemic in mind, Jonathan hopes these scents will transport one to a moment of joy and comfort.
Loewe Home Scents launched in select Loewe stores worldwide, perfumesloewe.com and loewe.com in September.
