Meet the French Furniture Designer Bringing Art de Vivre to Dubai’s Chicest Homes
Roche Bobois shows us how bold pieces can be the ultimate conversation starter
There’s an art to styling your space. The right choices can weave a story without needing words, just through the expert use of texture, colour, and form. That’s exactly what Roche Bobois is all about, and what the French furniture icon brought to Dubai this month, with its debut at Downtown Design 2025.
For over six decades, Roche Bobois has redefined the boundaries of furniture design, collaborating with visionaries like Kenzo Takada and Jean Paul Gaultier. The brand’s installation marked a meeting point between several cultures and created a bridge between the French concept of Art de Vivre and the Middle East’s flourishing creative energy.
Although Roche Bobois’ Design Week showcase has drawn to a close, the pieces they displayed continue to make a mark. Take the Aqua Dining Table by French designer Fabrice Berrux, for instance. It has both sculptural and fluid elements, crafted in limited-edition Rosso Levanto marble that commands attention.
The modular Mah Jong sofa, dressed in Kenzo Takada’s SAMAA fabrics, is another standout. It incorporates emblematic Kenzo Takada motifs such as stripes with woven flowers and torn fishnet patterns, inspired by ancient kimonos from Noh Theatre.
Frequent co-collaborator of the brand, Sacha Lakic, reworked his Bubble Sofa in a vivid Cromática hue created with Spanish filmmaker Pedro Almodóvar. Its bold look was both dramatic and playful, coming together to create a piece that’s sure to start conversations.
In addition, Lakic has also unveiled a renewed version of his iconic SPEED UP dining table to celebrate the collection’s 20th anniversary. This new iteration features a sleek marble top and dynamic base that forms a dialogue between futurism and timeless elegance.
