Harper’s Bazaae Junior Editor’s Letter: Have The Courage To Change
Natasha Faruque speaks to the transformation that comes with the first foray into motherhood
It’s a powerful quote, and one that really resonates. Our Harper’s Bazaar Junior cover star and new mum Salma Abu Deif tells us, “Being a mother has completely changed me – my body, my inner self – and I know that I will never be the same as before.” Until you go through the process, as I did five-years-ago when I had my daughter, you can’t fathom how utterly all-encompassing that change will be. I am now known to many by my new moniker ‘Talia’s mum’ – and that is almost entirely the sum of their knowledge about me. But I too agree with Salma when she continues that “that’s very beautiful; a new version of me was needed anyways.” The 2.0 post-child incarnation is so inspired, fuelled by Talia’s wonder and filled with unqualified love, that it’s definitely an upgrade in my case.
The new me completely sympathises with Ruwaida Abela Northen’s vent about continuous parental juggling and worries about the privileged bubble our children are cocooned in. It doesn’t however magic up ‘from scratch’ kitchen masterpieces à la viral sensation Nara Aziza-Smith – whose couture kitchen ensembles are draw enough.
From micro fashion to family escapes, there’s plenty to ponder this issue.
