Spring Awakening: A Letter From The Editor | Harper’s Bazaar Arabia Junior S/S21

Nina Catt introduces the latest issue of Bazaar Junior – an issue full of fun fashion, dreamy destinations and parental inspiration

When I think of spring, I’ve always seen it as a time to reset, revive and take charge of the year ahead, ensuring my goals and aspirations are still on track. Because for me, the first few months of the year often go by in the blink of an eye and before I know it, spring has arrived and it feels like I’ve been caught up in a tumble dryer and propelled out of the other side.

This year, that sense of ‘how did it get to April already?’ feels more prevalent than ever thanks to the ongoing presence of COVID-19 and that underlying feeling of uncertainty that goes with it – which, as someone who usually likes to plan, prepare and forward-think most details in life, is a feeling that’s unsurprisingly pretty hard to swallow. But I’m learning, gradually, that plans and expectations simply cannot rule our path, and how when you let go of them, reality can actually exceed them.

Spring is here and we have a lot to look forward to. I can feel it. Travel is steadily creeping back on the cards. New and innovative businesses are beginning to emerge. And I don’t know about you, but I’m about to embark on a mammoth spring clean of my closet to make room for gingham dresses and peep-toe sandals. After months of working from home in sweatpants last year, lockdown certainly reaffirmed how powerful dressing up can be – and that goes for the children too. Head to page 10 for our edit of the best spring/summer trends so your little ones can step into the new season in style.

If the past challenging year taught me anything, it taught me that no matter how hard it is to muster up the energy or positivity to go about my daily routine, there are many resources to turn to for a little help or guidance, as highlighted in The Children Are Our Future where our conversation with the brilliant Aakanksha Tangri, founder of online support and advice platform, Re:Set, underscores different ways to navigate discussions with children surrounding topics such as mental health, wellbeing, equality and inclusion. Turn to page 18.

Whether you’re a parent, a guardian or a favourite aunty, I hope you find inspiration within these pages. After all, as the great Whitney Houston so brilliantly said, “I believe the children are our future, teach them well and let them lead the way.” Enjoy our spring/summer issue.
