Louvre Abu Dhabi Honours Post-Impressionism With A Colourful Exhibition And Art-Inspired Menu At Fouquet’s

The iconic masterpieces on view inspire contemplation of one of the most important French art movements in history

On view at Louvre Abu Dhabi until February 9, 2025 and organised in partnership with Musée d’Orsay and France Muséums, Post-Impressionism: Beyond Appearances features 100 artworks including paintings, works on paper, and textile from nine museums and cultural institutions. With masterpieces by Vincent Van Gogh, Paul Cézanne, Henri-Edmond Cross and Paul Sérusier, the exhibition is structured into nine sections, each showcasing the visionary journeys of Post-Impressionist artists. Visitors are invited to view the colourful scenography that paved the way for a new groundbreaking movement in the art world.

The Post-Impressionists, not satisfied with the loss of structure in impressionist paintings, experimented with new ways of painting and brushstrokes that created harmony and structural arrangement, which prevailed over naturalism. The different sections of the exhibition invite viewers to learn more about the Post-Impressionist masters and encourage personal interpretation of the works. Through four interactive multimedia devices, visitors can engage with the video projections and interactive stories about the artists.

“The exhibition’s colourful scenography echoes the artists’ palettes, allowing visitors to discover and rediscover a period in which key words are innovation and a quest for openness, qualities that resonate with the blossoming artistic sector in the region, while fulfilling Louvre Abu Dhabi’s mission of presenting key moments in the history of art,” expresses Manuel Rabaté, Director of Louvre Abu Dhabi.

To complement the exhibition, Louvre Abu Dhabi and French restaurant Fouquet’s have unveiled a first-of-its-kind menu inspired by Cézanne, Gauguin, Van Gogh, and Seurat. Chef Balveer Balkisson has reimagined their brushstrokes and vibrant colours in four courses – Seurat’s pointillism is brought to life with a colourful carrot and beetroot gradient; Van Gogh’s swirling emotions are captured in a delectable cauliflower puree; Gauguin’s island life is recreated through bold, vivid flavours; and Cézanne’s geometric forms are reflected in a structured dessert.

Art lovers can view the exhibition and then head to Fouquet’s to immerse in a unique sensory experience that brings the artists’ visionary creativity to life.

The exclusive limited-edition menu will be available at Fouquet’s throughout the Post-Impressionism: Beyond Appearances exhibition, running until 9 February 2025.
