#ChicEats | Masti Finds Its New Home At The Dubai Edition And Is Set To Become A Downtown Favourite

Joining a collection of top restaurants already housed inside the contemporary hotel, Masti is the newly opened hotspot that needs to be on your radar, says Bazaar’s Nina Catt

When I arrived for my reservation at Masti at 7pm on a Tuesday evening, there was already a queue out of the door. Impressive for a restaurant that had only been open for a few days, yet unsurprising, as fans had eagerly been awaiting the opening of the Indian eatery’s new outpost at The Dubai Edition since its closure at La Mer six months ago. Myself included.

Entering via a vibrant corridor bedecked with trinkets and treasures with a distinct feeling they have a story to tell, if you’re looking for a venue to celebrate a special occasion, Masti is sure to be a crowd pleaser from the off.

Wandering through the mood-lit restaurant with its plush furnishings and magnificent stained glass-backed bar, the vibe here is more decadent than its predecessor, with an intimate ambience that’s warm and welcoming. Head out to the open-air terrace before the scorching temperatures of summer hit.

Despite overlooking one of Downtown Dubai’s busiest streets, outside you’ll be transported to a tranquil oasis that somehow manages to feel as if you and your dinner date are in a bubble of your own, under the glow of the moonlight. It’s a space that oozes a laid-back sophistication; the perfect spot for sampling Masti’s eclectic drink menu which celebrates natural ingredients by spiking creative blends with the likes of turmeric, basil and fenugreek.

The food menu is just as flamboyant. Helmed by Chef Prashant Chipkar, many of the dishes remain loyal to the restaurant’s former offering at La Mer, paying homage to the imaginative reinterpretation of authentic Indian cuisine, complete with ornate flourishes. Signatures including the Tandoori Chicken Bao, Tuna Bhel Tartare and Malabar Fish remain on the menu, while new creations including Watermelon Bhakri, Ghee Roast Bone Marrow, and Beef Vindaloo beautifully elevate the culinary options.

It is also worth noting that vegan palettes are truly taken care of with personal highlights; the Avocado Ceviche Pani Puri, Eggplant Bharta and Greenpea Tikki Ghassi still pirouetting through my mind.

Unafraid to be different by bringing a world of “New India” to the fore, Masti invites guests on a magnificent culinary journey of the senses – a journey I’m planning on embarking upon again, very, very soon.
