Scent Of A Rose Art Brunch
In her first exhibition, Sheikha Maytha Bint Obaid Al Maktoum revealed her series of paintings to an intimate art world gathering
On 20 January, Sheikha Maytha Bint Obaid Al Maktoum marked the opening of her debut Scent of a Rose exhibition of paintings with a brunch in the Al Majlis Ballroom in Mina a’ Salaam at Madinat Jumeirah.
The intimate event, in partnership with Harper’s Bazaar Art, was attended by collectors, artists, gallerists and other art world professionals. After rose themed canapes and scented tea, they took turns to view Sheikha Maytha’s series of five acrylic on canvas paintings executed in 2003, the first time they had been viewed by those other than close friends and family.
The works were set within an atmospheric, custom-built installation, curated by Sheikha Maytha herself, and revealed one by one by a spotlight within the dark interior and set to emotive, haunting music of Zbigniew Preisner. Each painting depicted the petals of a rose, emerging from a sombre background, and the artist’s intention was to evoke the scent of a rose as they were observed by the viewer.
