Ruba Mohammed Almasri Becomes First Female Saudi Fencer To Represent KSA at The International University Sport Federation

Saudi has been taking international sporting events by storm. From the Paris 2024 Olympics to the Paralympics, athletes from the Kingdom have been setting new personal and national bests on the global stage.

Ruba Mohammed Almasri recently shared some exciting news that she’s been appointed as the first female fencer to represent Saudi Arabia as a student-athlete ambassador to The International University Sport Federation.

She shared the exciting news, along with her awarded certificate as Student Ambassador for the 2024/25 season, with a post across her social media channels yesterday.

“History is made as we rise, inspire, and pave the way for future generations,” the 22-year-old fencer wrote in the caption.

The exciting news was even shared by Her Highness Princess Reema bint Bandar Al Saud, Saudi’s ambassador to the United States, across her official social media channels. Her Highness, a big support of young Saudi athletes, has been continuously working to champion women in sports from the region and beyond.

The FISU Student Ambassadors Programme’s was set up to support the growing development of university sports around the world. The immersive programme recognises the importance behind utilising sports to encourage student engagement and participation – and provides excellent ways to advocate for gender equality across young people in society.

The 22-year-old athlete for the Saudi National Team, has had a rewarding career thus far. Last year she competed in the Saudi Games 2023 where she was awarded gold for her win. The same year Ruba participated in the World Combat Games, winning another gold medal with Team KSA and securing bronze for her individual event.

Taking up fencing back in April 2018, the young female ambassador immersed herself into the world of sports by joining the Summer Olympic Fencing Programme – naturally, drawing inspiration from her father’s athletic career. Alongside her passion for fencing, Ruba is kept busy through her role as a beauty specialist, lawyer and a marketer at Memac Ogilvy.
