Update: On April 1, Miss Universe released a statement denying recent claims by Rumy Alqahtani that she will be representing Saudi in the 2024 pageant. The statement revealed that no selection process has been conducted in Saudi Arabia, and emphasised any such claims are “false and misleading”. This is a developing story.
First Bahrain and now KSA… Saudi Arabia will make its Miss Universe debut as 27-year-old Rumy Alqahtani announced yesterday that she will be representing the Kingdom at the next edition of the pageant – another first for the GCC region after Lujane Yacoub from Hamala took to the stage last year.
News broke yesterday on social media as the contestant took to Instagram to share the news. Dressed in a sparkling beige strapless gown with a crown, the Riyadh-born model and content creator shared her excitement at representing Saudi on the world stage at Miss Universe 2024.
“Honored to participate in Miss Universe 2024,” she wrote in a caption on her Instagram, announcing the news to her 1 million followers. “This is the first participation of Saudi Arabia in the Miss Universe competition.”
