What’s Your Love Language? Bazaar Arabia Editors Reveal The Keys To Their Hearts
In honour of Valentine’s Day today, we asked the Harper’s Bazaar Arabia team what their love language is…
Not everyone communicates love in the same way, and likewise, people have different ways they prefer to receive love. The concept of love languages was developed by Gary Chapman, Ph.D., in his book The 5 Love Languages: The Secret to Love That Lasts, where he describes these five unique styles of communicating love. You can take the quiz online to discover yours.
Here, Team Bazaar Arabia share their love language…
What’s Your Love Language? Team Bazaar Arabia Share Their Answers
As I enter early adulthood, I feel that I’m becoming more aware of how I respond to various expressions of affection. I’ve come to realise that nothing screams red flag louder than someone who makes me feel unseen or unheard. So it was no surprise to me to discover that my love language was quality time. A good, uninterrupted chat is worth more than any fancy dinner!
Imogene Legrand, Fashion Assistant
A present, because gifts always make me smile. No matter what it is – a personalised treat, a surprise lunch or even a fridge magnet… however, diamonds are never not welcome! But the best feeling is seeing the reaction of the people I love when gift-giving. Let’s be honest, this love language gets a bad rep. It doesn’t have to be a bank-breaking gift, but one that has meaning and thoughtful intention behind it which shows that the person gets me.

My love language is quality time. A good conversation is priceless to me – even better if it comes with laughs and a long hug at the end. Otherwise, a dance session is pure love to me. I’m not a great dancer but my wife makes me feel like I am.
Oscar Yáñez, Art Director
The funny thing is I didn’t know what my love language was until I was asked this question! Turns out, it’s words of affirmation. I think I’ve always understood the power of words and that’s why I became a writer. I still remember all the nice words that have been said to me in the past, and I will recall the feeling I had in those moments whenever I am down. Words always have the power to lift my spirit.

My love language is simple pleasures – a sunset walk on the beach, grabbing ice cream, or ordering takeout and watching a movie at home. With our hectic schedules, I cherish quality time more than I ever have before.
Laura Jane Brown, Fashion Editor
While actions speak a thousand words, for me, conversations that display support from loved ones do the trick. Whether it’s a reassuring statement, a one-liner pick-me-up, a heartfelt message or even a cheeky compliment, words of affirmation is my love language.
Anahita Ghai, Social Media Editor
My love language is giraffes – I can’t get enough of them. My 40th birthday was on a safari in Tanzania where I walked with giraffes in the wild. On my 50th birthday, I got to have breakfast with giraffes in Abu Dhabi. But when I can’t get a giraffe fix, my husband knows that my happy place is being nestled up beside him with my head on his shoulder as we watch TV together and talk about our day.
