Pope Francis Will Be Attending COP28 In Dubai

The pontiff said he would arrive on December 1 and stay until December 3

Yesterday, the Pope announced that he would be travelling to the Emirate for a 3-day trip for the COP28 climate conference that is set to be held in Expo City Dubai.

Pope Francis has been very vocal about a whole host of issues from the start of his papacy, climate change being one. In a recent statement from the Vatican, the pontiff shared these views, saying: “Our responses have not been adequate, while the world in which we live is collapsing and may be nearing the breaking point”, continuing, “Some effects of the climate crisis are already irreversible, at least for several hundred years…”

This trip marks the first trip of Pope Francis since his appearance in Bahrain almost a year ago on November, 2, 2022. The forecasted trip will occur roughly two weeks before his 87th birthday, despite recent health issues, this commitment to appearing at the conference proves his dedication to solving the climate crisis.

The United Nations Climate Change Conference (UNCCC) will hold their international climate conference in Dubai on November 30. The event consists of talks and panels, and is scheduled to run until December 12.
