Ramla Ali Is Taking Part In A Historic Saudi Boxing Match
The champion will fight Crystal Nova in the region’s first ever female boxing match
Mark your calendars — history will be made on August 20 in Saudi Arabia, when Ramla Ali and Crystal Nova will face each other in the country’s first professional female boxing match. The highly anticipated showdown will take place in Jeddah as a part of its Rage on the Red Sea event, and will also feature a rematch between Anthony Joshua and Oleksandr Usyk, according to TimeOut Riyadh.
News of the iconic match was shared by Ramla on her Instagram. The Somali boxer stated that she’s “been a lot of firsts in my life and the goal has always remained the same. Keep striving for equality and through change we will continue to inspire our next generation of daughters,” in her caption. Ramla also thanked the Saudi Royal family for giving her this opportunity and her team for making the historic event happen.
Ramla Ali, who has been living in the UK since she was 12, is the first Somali boxer to compete in the Olympics. A gender equality activist and humanitarian herself, the popular athlete is passionate about her impact both inside and outside the ring. “I want to be remembered for everything I do in the ring,” she said in an exclusive interview with Bazaar Arabia. “But more than that, I want to be remembered for how I helped others outside of the ring.”
