Are Prince Harry and Meghan Markle Getting Sued?

The couple may be questioned as part of the defamation case the former Suit actress’ half-sister, Samantha Markle, has brought against her

Are Meghan and Harry getting sued? Bazaar Arabia shares everything we know about the defamation case brought against The Duchess of Sussex by her half-sister, Samantha.

Family drama. Everyone has to deal with it at some point in their lives. It’s unavoidable and, even close-knit clans experience disagreements at times (just look at The Kardashian-Jenner family.) Unfortunately, when you’re from one of the most famous families in the world – with the spotlight permanently fixed on everything you do, the highs and lows of living your life – your most private affairs are aired in the public domain for all to read, discuss and comment on. Evidently, this includes feuding between siblings.

Recently, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have been having to deal with one of the worst kinds of family fights, one which involves the paternal side of The Duchess of Sussex’s half-sister, Samantha Markle, who is attempting to take the couple to court.

Thomas Markle’s 56-year-old daughter lodged a defamation case against The Duchess of Sussex in March 2022, seeking $75,000 (approx. Dhs275,482) in damages from her younger half-sister. Apparently, Samantha feels these “defamation and injurious falsehoods” which occurred during the couple’s televised interview with Oprah Winfrey, need to be brought to court.

Samantha seems to have been particularly irked by Meghan’s claim that she was an only child, having referred to her half-siblings on her father’s side as strangers and claiming to not have had a relationship with them at all.

Will Meghan and Harry be questioned in court?

Yesterday, Judge Charlene Edwards Honeywell rejected Meghan and Harry’s bid to stop the couple from having to give legal testimony, according to the BBC. This means if the case goes to court the couple will have to give testimony in a legal deposition.

According to the BBC the judge did note, after looking at the case, that there may be grounds for dismissal – meaning Meghan and Harry may not be sued and, subsequently, won’t have to worry about giving testimony to the court.
