Prince Philip, Duke Of Edinburgh Passes Away At 99

Buckingham Palace announced the news this morning on the British Royal Family’s official Instagram account

His Royal Highness The Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh “peacefully” passed away this morning at Windsor Castle.

The Royal Family shared the sad news on their official Instagram page earlier thday with the following statement:

“It is with deep sorrow that Her Majesty The Queen announced the death of her beloved husband, His Royal Highness The Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh. His Royal Highness passed away peacefully this morning at Windsor Castle. The Royal Family join with people around the world in mourning his loss”.

Buckingham Palace has also shared that further announcements will be made throughout the day in course.

Prince Philip was last seen publicly this March, while leaving King Edward VII’s hospital in London after a month-long stay. The Duke of Edinburgh had to be hospitalised, as a precautionary measure, by mid-February after being diagnosed with an infection. This made him to be taken later to St. Bartholomew’s hospital in London to undergo a procedure for a pre-existing heart condition.

As Buckingham Palace and members of the royal family announced in several statements back in the day, the procedure had been successful and His Royal Highness, the Duke of Edinburgh was “in good spirits.”

Besides, his last public appearances, Prince Philip was already retired from royal duties since late 2017.

Prince Philip was born in Corfu, Greece on June 10, 1921 to Princess Alice of Battenberg and Prince Andrew of Greece. From a family of five siblings, His Royal Highness Prince Philip was actually sixth in line and held the title as Prince of Greece and Denmark until 1947, when he married Her Majesty the Queen and begun to hold his title as His Royal Highness Duke of Edinburgh. Besides his many titles, Prince Philip has made history already holding the record for the longest serving royal consort in British history.

We extend our deepest condolences to Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth and members of the Royal Family during this difficult time.
