From A Traditional Tea Ceremony To Aircraft Displays: Inside Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed’s Visit To Korea
His Highness was honoured with a display of Korean customs and cultural performances
His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the United Arab Emirates and Ruler of Abu Dhabi, this week embarked on a two-day visit to the Republic of Korea.
Following an invitation from His Excellency, Yoon Suk Yeol, President of Korea, Sheikh Mohamed paid a visit to the East Asian nation for a whirlwind trip of hospitality and cultural flair, as the two world leaders worked on strengthening relations between their countries.
Upon its arrival into Korean airspace on Tuesday, the presidential flight was escorted by military aircraft as a gesture of respect and welcome.
His Highness was accompanied by a sizable delegation, including H.H. Sheikh Hamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, H.H. Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Sheikh Mohammed bin Hamad bin Tahnoun Al Nahyan, Advisor for Special Affairs at the Presidential Court, and Sheikha Mariam bint Mohamed, Deputy Chairperson of the Presidential Court for National Projects, amongst others.
Mr Yoon, accompanied by First Lady Kim Keon Hee, expressed their utmost pleasure at meeting Sheikh Mohamed, and welcomed the Emirati leader with an official reception. The ceremony featured several displays by Korean aircraft, a 21-gun salute, along with an honour guard formation. The national anthems of both the UAE and Republic of Korea were also played, while groups of children performed an Emirati song, and others waved the flags of both countries.
His Highness’ visit was also met with public jubilation, as the streets of Seoul were adorned with UAE flags, and landmarks across the city lit up in the national colours of the Emirates.
Accompanied by H.H. Sheikha Mariam bint Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Sheikh Mohamed attended a traditional tea ceremony at Changdeokgung Palace, where they were treated to a flute performance by a local musician. The president also toured the palace’s Secret Garden, which is considered a historical tourist destination.
Later, a banquet was held in his honour. Hosted at the Blue House, the special event featured musical entertainment and traditional performances.
During his visit, His Highness also met with Korean business leaders and entrepreneurs, as well Emirati students studying at Korean universities.
