The Story Behind Sheikha Moza’s Maroon Dress at The World Cup Opening Ceremony
The Qatari royal was spotted in a familiar look yesterday evening during the celebrations in Doha
The connection between football and fashion is stronger than ever, but especially so in the lead-up to the 2022 World Cup – and nobody understands the power of statement dressing better than Her Highness Sheikha Moza bint Nasser of Qatar.
Sheikha Moza sent a powerful message to viewers from all over the world yesterday evening as she stepped out in what appears to be the same custom maroon Prada dress and Chaumet brooch that she wore when in 2010, back when the Gulf nation placed its bid to host the tournament.

According to @sheikhamozafashion, the dress was custom-made by the Italian fashion house and took inspiration from its Spring/Summer 2007 collection.
Sheikha Moza wore in Zurich with a charcoal-coloured fur stole, the brooch pinned close to the neckline. Yesterday, Her Highness appeared to be wearing the very same dress with a matching abaya and shayla, the brooch visible on her right shoulder.
The full-circle fashion can best be described as elegant and chic, but also very nostalgic.
