If you’re an Emirati aspiring to start your career in the literally arts, there’s an initiative taking place in the UAE that is ideal for you.
The Writers’ Retreat, a professional training and mentoring programme started to equip aspiring Emirati authors has just announced its second edition.
Under the theme Find Your Voice, the initiative is going to take place from August 10 to 17 at The Chedi Al Bait Sharjah, a heritage hotel in the historic Heart of Sharjah district.
The week-long retreat was started by UAE-based publisher Kalimat Group, whose Founder and Chief Executive Officer is Sharjah’s Sheikha Bodour bint Sultan Al Qasimi. The initiative is backed by the UAE Ministry of Culture.
The project was officiated with a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed by Sheikha Bodour and Sheikh Salem Bin Khalid Al Qassimi, Minister of Culture.
In a LinkedIn post, Sheikha Bodour expressed her excitement for the second edition of the programme. She wrote: “I’m thrilled to announce our second Writers’ Retreat – a Kalimat Group -led initiative to train and mentor Emirati writers at different points in their authorship careers and help them hone their creative craft.”
She also highlighted the UAE’s continuous efforts to encourage aspiring writers in the country. “Our nation is teeming with raw literary talents who, with professional guidance, can be refined and professionalised into successful authors capable of distinct works that enrich and deepen the Emirati canon
“The Writers’ Retreat is a chance to discover and empower aspiring authors, which is positive for them, for publishing, and for the UAE’s profile as an international literary powerhouse,” she added.
An avid supporter of literally arts, Sheikha Bodour recently attended the Thessaloniki International Book Fair 2024 (TIBF) as Sharjah was invited as the Guest of Honour at the event.
