Kate Middleton Might Name Pippa Middleton As Her Lady-In-Waiting
The Princess of Wales may appoint her younger sister as her closest companion when she becomes Queen
The Princess of Wales is reportedly considering asking her sister, Pippa Middleton, to take on the role as her Lady-In-Waiting when she becomes Queen.
Formally, a lady-in-waiting is a royal companion who assists with royal duties, admin, and day-to-day engagements. Essentially, the one who serves in this position may be queen’s most trusted and closest confidant.
According to royal historian Kate Williams, the Princess of Wales might appoint her younger sister to the role due to the fact that they share such a close bond.
“I think traditionally, we might expect Catherine to appoint her sister Pippa, because Catherine is so famously close to her family. She doesn’t have companions because she’s so close to her mother and her sister. I think we might possibly expect that Pippa might be someone she might appoint,” she said during an appearance on True Royalty TV’s The Royal Beat: Back in Time.
Previously, royal experts have stated that Kate Middleton’s decision to not have any official companions goes against royal tradition, but once Prince William assumes the throne, and she becomes Queen, she might need assistance with the added responsibilities.
“The job of a monarch and a consort isn’t getting any smaller. The letters, the correspondence, the emails are growing every day,” Kate Williams said. “So, when Catherine becomes Queen, the levels of tours, the levels of letters, the level of receptions, will still require this assistance. So, I think she will have to appoint some ladies-in-waiting.”
However, whether or not Pippa would even want to take on such a considerable role is still to be seen. “Pippa has her own life — three children, and a busy life of her own,” she said. “It’s a fascinating question.”
In the meantime, Pippa has remained a resolute pillar of support during the Princess of Wales’ battle with cancer.
