A Closer Look At Meghan Markle’s Royal Wedding Jewellery
Something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue: the new bride had it covered with her dazzling wedding jewellery
With all eyes on the bride yesterday in her boat neck Givenchy dress, her accompanying jewels did not disappoint. The (quite literally) crowning piece was Queen Mary’s Diamond Bandeau tiara, which dates from 1932 and features a detachable brooch at the centre harking from 1893.

Mounted in platinum, the art deco tiara is comprised of 11 openwork sections, pierced and set with diamonds throughout. The floral-style brooch features a central old-cut diamond enclosed by smaller stones, and was gifted to the Queen’s grandmother Mary on her wedding day in 1893 by the County of Lincoln. The bandeau tiara was then created in 1932 to incorporate the brooch, which were both left to Harry’s grandmother the Queen following Mary’s death in 1953.
It’s been said that Meghan personally picked the piece after meeting with the Queen to view the extensive Royal collection and choose a tiara to borrow for the special day. The Queen Mary diamond tiara is less well known than other pieces and was last seen in public in 1965.

Meghan paired the tiara with Gelanterie de Cartier earrings and a Reflection de Cartier diamond bracelet by the jewellery Maison.

In a further touching addition to the day, the bride wore an aquamarine cocktail ring for the evening reception that had previously belonged to Harry’s mother, Diana, for the evening party.

The ring comes from a jewellery set that features a matching bracelet set with strands of pearls and a standout step-cut aquamarine.

The look was topped off by a pair of diamond earrings – also from the Reflection de Cartier collection – alongside the new Duchess’s Stella McCartney dress and shoes from Aquazurra.
