5 Times Her Highness Sheikha Mahra Bint Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Served Us With A Lesson in Regal Dressing

From colourful jalabiyas to the intricate designs on her pastel abayas, the Dubai royal – who is reportedly engaged to Sheikh Mana Bin Mohammed Bin Rashid Bin Mana Al Maktoum – is poised to become the region’s next style icon

His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the United Arab Emirates and Ruler of Dubai’s daughter, Her Highness Sheikha Mahra Bint Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, is reportedly engaged to Sheikh Mana Bin Mohammed Bin Rashid Bin Mana Al Maktoum. Bazaar Arabia shares 10 of the royal’s most stylish looks, courtesy of her Instagram, here.

From Princess Diana to Queen Rania, royal dressing has always been a source of inspiration for the public, influencing the trends and shopping habits of the masses – and this tradition can be traced back for centuries around the world.

Marie Antoinette of France and Georgiana Cavendish, Duchess of Devonshire, set the tone in the 18th century for their eclectic, over-the-top approach to dressing – complete with sky-high powdered wigs, eccentric hats, and a more-is-more approach to dressing. Queen Victoria of Britain was responsible for the rise in popularity of large hoopskirts during the 1800s, originally adopted to make her petite stature appear more grand and dominant in the presence of her advisors and subjects. Princess Fawzia of Egypt, a breathtaking beauty, was known for being one of the most fashionable women in the region – often rivaling the old Hollywood starlets of the 1950s with her outfit choices.

Catherine, Princess of Wales set the tone for the early 2010’s brides on the hunt for their dream dresses, when she stepped out on her wedding day in a lace-sleeved gown by English designer Sarah Burton to wed Prince William.

From wedding day fashion to high street style, all it takes is for one royal to be spotted in a particular item for it to become the most coveted look of the season – and this extends to the GCC as a new generation of young royals begins to make their mark in what will become fashion history. In the wake of the rumoured engagement of Her Highness Sheikha Mahra Bint Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum to Sheikh Mana al Maktoum Bazaar Arabia shares a selection of her best style moments here.
