The Meaning Behind Prince Harry And Meghan Markle’s Daughter’s Name

While it certainly isn’t a traditional royal name, it’s has a special meaning behind it

Another joyous occasion is upon us, as Prince Harry And Meghan Markle announced the birth of their daughter today.

According to the BBC, Lilibet “Lili” Diana Mountbatten-Windsor was born on Friday, June 4 in California; she weighed 7 lbs 11 oz. Both the Duchess of Sussex and child are “healthy and well.”

The couple made the announcement via their website, Archewell, where they also revealed the meaning behind Little Lili’s name.

“Lili is named after her great-grandmother, Her Majesty The Queen, whose family nickname is Lilibet. Her middle name, Diana, was chosen to honor her beloved late grandmother, The Princess of Wales,” reads the statement.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex shared a message of thanks, noting “…she is more than we could have ever imagined, and we remain grateful for the love and prayers we’ve felt from across the globe. Thank you for your continued kindness and support during this very special time for our family.”

Little “Lili” is the Queen of England’s 11th grandchild and eighteen in line to the British throne.
