Why Were Prince Harry and Meghan Markle in a Taxi?
The taxi driver involved in the “near catastrophic” car chase speaks out as more details come to light…
Why were Prince Harry and Meghan Markle in a taxi? The reasonable explanation as to why the couple opted for a New York cab when making a getaway from the paparazzi.
If the facts are true then this terrifying incident is eerily reminiscent of a tragic night that occurred in the August of 1997 – although, like all truths, they are two sides to every story.
Details emerged yesterday evening that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle were involved in a “near catastrophic” car chase in New York City on Tuesday evening, according to the couple’s team. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex were leaving the 2023 Women of Vision Awards with Meghan’s mother, Doria Ragland, when the trio was swarmed by the paparazzi when driving away in their SUV with their security detail.
A spokesperson for the couple claims “a ring of highly aggressive paparazzi” followed them for “over two hours” according to the BBC, breaking multiple road rules including running red lights, driving on the pavement and illegally blocking moving vehicles; police presence reportedly did not deter the reckless drivers. After two hours of circling the venue where the awards ceremony had taken place, the couple’s driver took The Duke and Duchess of Sussex to New York’s police department’s 19th precinct police station, where they switched vehicles in an attempt to make a stealth getaway.
Which brings us to the question… why were Prince Harry and Meghan Markle in a taxi?
Ultimately, it seems The Duke and Duchess of Sussex were trying to thwart the relentless efforts of the paparazzi by leaving the police station in the most assuming way possible. The BBC reveals their security guard flagged down a cab, driven by Sukhcharn ‘Sonny’ Singh. Sonny reportedly drove them a block away, before his taxi was blocked by a garbage truck. The paparazzi then swarmed the vehicle, taking more pictures of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle.
Sonny told media outlets that the couple “looked nervous,” but were not being as aggressive as the couple’s spokesperson suggested.
While there are always two sides to every story it seems the logical reason why Prince Harry and Meghan Markle were in a taxi (and not their SUV) when the incident occurred was to throw off photographers and make a safe return home to the residence where they were staying.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex and Doria Ragland have not yet publicly commented on the incident.
