Saudi Arabia Opera House: Everything We Know

On December 14, the Diriyah Company, in collaboration with the Royal Commission for Riyadh City, unveiled an ambitious joint venture- the construction of the Kingdom’s inaugural Opera House in Riyadh’s ancient Diriyah district.

Recognized as Saudi Arabia’s paramount historical, cultural, and lifestyle hub, Diriyah, a UNESCO World Heritage site dating back to the 1700s, stands as a testament to years of cultural richness and Arab heritage.

Spanning over 45,000 square meters, the Opera House is set to be crafted by the distinguished architectural firm Snøhetta. Drawing inspiration from the traditional Najdi architecture, the design will exhibit meticulous details and evoke a mudbrick ambiance, seamlessly fusing the opulence of rich heritage with the cutting-edge flair of modern innovation.

His Excellency Ibrahim Al-Sultan, Minister of State, Member of the Council of Ministers, and CEO of the Royal Commission for Riyadh City stated, “The announcement of the Royal Diriyah Opera House embodies our aspirations for Riyadh to be a city at the forefront of global cultural and architectural innovation.”
