Can You Fly With Just Your Emirates ID at DXB?

According to sources online, Dubai residents will have the opportunity to navigate the Airport without the need for passports, visas, or any travel documents in the future

Over the last few years, it seems that our airports get faster, easier to get through, and less paper heavy – but will we ever be able to travel with no passport at all?

Dubai International Airport has introduced upgraded Biometric Smart Gate scanners designed to allow individuals to pass through the gates within seconds, completely eliminating the need for any documents. And in typical Dubai style, these scanners are also receiving an upgrade. The development aligns with the changes implemented at Abu Dhabi International Airport, where a similar biometric check-in system was introduced last year. During this phase, passengers could effortlessly obtain a boarding pass and access multiple services with a simple facial scan.

In the near future, Dubai residents will also have the remarkable opportunity to navigate the Airport without the need for passports, visas, or any travel documents at all. Khaleej Times reported the groundbreaking news from Emaratech, a leading integrated solutions provider, at the ongoing technology exhibition Gitex in Dubai, which commenced on Monday.

The evolution of biometrics and facial recognition in technology means that you will soon be able to leapfrog the check-in counter. Travellers will receive their travel itinerary and flight information and also check in their luggage at the same time at the Gate. After which, it’s straight to duty-free and onwards.

Although it is not currently confirmed when these Gates will be implemented in Dubai International Airport, we are already excited to travel lightly and often.
