What’s The World’s Most Powerful Passport?
The Henley Passport Index, a coveted measure of global mobility, has once again stirred curiosity with its latest rankings that were recently released. This annual index assesses passports based on the number of countries their holders can access without a prior visa. This year, stealing the spotlight for number one is Singapore, which has emerged as the reigning champion in the world of passports. With its citizens enjoying visa-free access to an impressive 192 destinations, the South East Asian country has outshined Japan, which now sits in third place after reigning supreme for half a decade.
Who took the second spot?
In a harmonious tie, Germany, Italy, and Spain share the second spot, empowering their citizens to traverse 190 countries visa-free, while Japan, along with Austria, Finland, France, Luxembourg, South Korea, and Sweden, forms a dynamic trio in third place, offering their citizens access to 189 countries without a visa.
How does the UAE rank?
Notably, the United Arab Emirates (UAE) has skyrocketed in the rankings, securing the 12th position, a remarkable achievement for the country. Climbing 44 places in the past decade, UAE passport holders now experience the freedom to visit 179 destinations visa-free. Speaking of the UAE’s successful rise, Dr Christian H. Kaelin, Chairman of Henley & Partners and inventor of the index concept, commented, “The United Arab Emirates has added 107 destinations to its visa-free score since 2013, resulting in a massive 44-place jump in the ranking over the last 10 years, from 56 to 12. This is almost double the next biggest climber, Colombia, which has risen 28 places in the ranking to 37th place.”
Neighboring Gulf countries, such as Oman and Qatar, have also demonstrated substantial progress in openness and travel accessibility.
