Recently, Saudi football club Al-Ittihad announced its signing of Moroccan player Salma Amani. Number 17 in the team, Salma is known for her top skills, intelligence and efficiency on the field. Who is Salma Amani?
Salma moved to France at a very young age.
Although Salma was born in Morocco’s capital city of Rabat, she left home at 8 months to be raised by her grandparents in Brest, a small city in northwestern France. Salma and her twin brother Salam started football lessons at the age of 5.
Salma played for the Morocco woman’s national team.
The footballer was a top goaler in Morocco’s national team which participated in the Women’s World Cup held in Australia and New Zealand. Prior to this, Salma was a midfielder for the French women’s club FC Metz.
Salma served in the French Military.
According to a report by Saudi Gazette, Salma joined the French Army before pursuing her passion for football and playing for FC Metz. She even represented the French Military team in the 2011 Military World Games hosted in Brazil.
Salma’s in preparation for the Saudi Women’s Premier League.
Salma’s next match as an Al-ittihadi member will be at the 2024-25 Saudi Women’s Premier League which is kickstarting on October 13. Last year, the team finished in 5th spot with 5 total wins and 6 draws.
