Nothing could have prepared the world for this year’s FIFA World Cup. We have witnessed history being made twice over with the triumph of both Saudi Arabia and Morocco and now we’re bidding farewell to legendary footballers who have inspired generations of future footballers and have been made idols in the eyes of children around the world.
Those of who we will soon see leaving the pitch forevermore would be the Paris-Saint German player, Lionel Messi. The thirty-five-year-old who is currently playing in his fifth World Cup has confirmed it will be one of his last, furthermore hinting at his retirement. While the player hasn’t publicly disclosed the reason behind this decision, fans can’t help but ask one question.
Why is Lionel Messi Retiring?
According to Gulf News, the footballer confirmed he will play his last FIFA World Cup game when Argentina play in Sunday’s final in Qatar.
“It’s many years for the next one and I don’t think I’ll be able to do it. And to finish like this, it’s the best,” Messi told the Argentine sports newspaper, Diario Olé. It should be considered that Messi will be thirty-nine by the time the next FIFA World Cup takes place.
