In The Spotlight: A Letter From Our Editor | Harper’s Bazaar Saudi Autumn 2024

Bazaar Saudi’s Natasha explores how women are part of the Kingdom’s success

In a world that seems to constantly promote the joys of overnight popularity, viral fame and instant gratification, sometimes the slow burn success stories seem to get lost in the noise. Or do they? The mercurial nature of short-lived hits ensures a quick high – but then an equally fast fizzle. Which is why we’re so excited that Fatima Abid Althaqafi – the powerhouse who has helmed her eponymous Tima Abid couture line for over two decades – is having such a moment.

A household name among discerning Saudis, our Bazaar Saudi cover star is now firmly on the global radar thanks to showings in Paris, Riyadh Fashion Week and was chosen to open the inaugural Red Sea Fashion Week this summer. A slow burn that’s sparked ever brighter.

The fact that this issue coincides with the celebration of Saudi National Day – and features other pioneering women like Sawsan AlBahiti, Ryouf Khalid Al-Rumaih and Shahrazad Faisal as well as the work of the next wave of fashion designers from the Kingdom – seems entirely apt. We hope you get as excited and inspired as we are, both by what the country’s achieved and what is still to come.
