Bridgerton Cast: Everything You Need To Know About The Stars Of Netflix’s Hottest New Series

Dearest Reader, what if the prim and proper characters of the show had iPhones? Lucky for us they do — off-screen, of course. Here, Bazaar shares a comprehensive introduction to a few of the leading ladies and gentlemen…

The Regency Era of satin opera gloves and glittering tiaras has come to full bloom in the candy-coloured world of Bridgerton, Netflix’s newest period drama.

Based on The Bridgerton Series novels by Julia Quinn, the show has become one of the streaming platforms most popular series to date with 63 million views and counting. Dubbed as the Gossip Girl of a bygone era, the narrator (voiced by Julie Andrews) comes in the form of a mysterious character named Lady Whistledown, whose rumour churning society paper is the talk of the town.

Showrunner Chris Van Dusen and producer Shonda Rhimes breathe life into old world dialogue and playful historical fashions. One of the most refreshing aspects of the show is the diverse cast, treating us to a life without racial discrimination. Risqué at times (enough to make Jane Austen blush) and harsh when it comes to the ideals of marriage for a young woman in the early 1800s, Bridgerton is your exclusive invite to glamorous balls and dreamy scenery. A perfectly fantastical world to get lost in meet the charmed characters of the series, by way of Instagram…

Phoebe Dynevor (Daphne Bridgerton)

Deemed the “Diamond of the Season” Phoebe plays Daphne, a young woman launched into London’s high society, the first of her three sisters. After receiving high marks from the Queen herself, Daphne must navigate the rumor mill while simply trying to fall and in love and live happily ever after. A feat that never comes easily. We can only hope!

Regé-Jean Page (Simon Basset, Duke of Hastings)

Page’s character is the handsomest of suitors who doesn’t play by the rules. A curious past whirls around him like a dark cloud. As the newly crowned Duke of Hastings after the passing of his father, he must decide whether his heart or his pride is worth saving. Most recently Page dispelled rumours on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon after the internet called for the British-Zimbabwean actor to be the next James Bond. To which Page replied, “The internet thinks a lot of things, and that’s one of the more pleasant ones.”

Jonathan Bailey (Anthony Bridgerton)

Bailey plays the eldest Bridgerton son, a Viscount who has no interest in marriage and responsibility. Should Netflix renew the show, the next season of Bridgerton may feature Anthony as the main character–allowing us to dig deeper into the psyche of one of the most hard to read characters of the series. Something tells me there’s more to the story.

Ruby Barker (Marina Thompson)

The newcomer who spoke the truth; Marina is a woman in love, with a secret of her own. Barker plays her emotions beautifully—succumbing to vulnerability and strength in seamlessly onscreen. Barker described it as a “dream come true” role.

Nicola Coughlan (Penelope Featherington)

The youngest and seemingly most normal of the Featheringtons, Coughlan plays a young girl whose unrequited love for one of the Bridgerton boys leaves her wanting. Lucky for her, true friendship comes in the form of Eloise, a loyal confidant as they look to discover the real Lady Whistledown. The Irish actress recently celebrated a birthday by reminiscing about her Bridgerton days.

Claudia Jessie (Eloise Bridgerton)

A quick wit and fearless way about her, Eloise dreams of a life where women are allowed to indulge in higher education rather than high society. Her head in books and always writing, this Bridgerton lady is poised to make a difference. This isn’t the first foray into historical dramas for Jessie. The English actress played Amelia in Amazon Prime’s Vanity Fair.
