2023 Fashion Trends: Balletcore, Marvelous Metallics and More
Valentino PP Pink that came hand in hand with Barbiecore, micro bags and a lot of cut-outs — 2022 had quite a few things in store, whether we liked them or not, it definitely never got boring.
New year new style? But what do the latest seasons have planned for our wardrobe? Naturally, the tendency towards 90s fashion, which we saw in the last couple of seasons already, will only grow stronger this year.
Here Bazaar Arabia shares our 2023 fashion predictions…
2023 Fashion Trends: What We’ll Be Seeing on The Street
Back to Basics
90s minimalism like Miu Miu. Taking a look at the Italian label’s last fashion show it is evident that clear cuts and sleek silhouettes will be dominating this year’s trend lists.
Balletcore
After seasons of athleisure, it is time for hyper-feminine accents that tie in with the Y2K aesthetic. Invest in soft pastels, classic ballet flats, and soft tulle moments.
Double Denim
Like the zodiac Scorpio, this is a trend you’ll either love or hate. Like it or not, denim on denim, just like Britney, is having its comeback, and labels like Levi’s and Dsquared2 are high in demand. From light-washed and bleached to dark indigo, there is something for every preference.
Glam Utility
After seeing the utility trend rise last year (and having designers add a copious amount of cargo pockets within their creations), functional fashion will get a make-over this season, with sparkles and sequins adorning army-inspired trousers. Death By Dolls and Isabel Marant show us how to take practical dressing and make it chic.
Marvelous Metallics
The trend was spotted at all big shows last year like Paco Rabanne. (Over)dressing is in again and stars around the globe are enthralled with this trend. Ashley Parker shows us that more is in fact more by pairing a sequin Valentino dress with the matching sparkling coat for the premiere of Emily in Paris.
Modern Modesty
Another trend seen on the catwalks of the world was designers such as Michael Kors, Max Mara, and Stéphane Rolland bringing modesty to a whole new level of glamorous. With maxi skirts bringing the oppositional trend to last year’s MiuMiu minis and hijabs out of the finest cashmere, labels are making modesty more mainstream and high fashion.
Motorcross
We are living in a fast-paced world and the motocross-inspired jackets, trousers, and accessories that were presented to us during the past fashion week by brands such as Stella McCartney and Dion Lee are a testimony of that.
Roughing It Up
Grunge and Punk are making a comeback. Fans of shows like Wednesday on Netflix or the late designer Vivienne Westwood have something to look forward to when browsing the stores for wardrobe updates. The catwalks of Versace and Chopova Lowena serve some fabulous examples of how to reinterpret the 80s favourite, but you could also just re-watch Wednesday on Netflix.
Slipping
Another 90s favourite that is coming back are slip dresses. Perfectly in time with spring upfront, the simple cut can be worn in various lengths and fabrics while leaving enough room for different patterns, appliqués, and colour combinations. Saint Laurent, Loewe, and Alice & Olivia show, that simplicity does not mean boring.
Suit It Up
Soft tailoring is a trend we have seen on many famous catwalks such as Elie Saab, Jil Sander, and Peter Do. This trend is taking a classic and makes it more feminine and laid-back whilst still ensuring to look put together. Soft pastels are also a favourite as in the case of Dries van Noten’s pale pistachio.
Walk Of Fame
Instead of being ashamed to wear last night’s party dress the next morning whilst running late for work, this season, we strut in sparkles all day long. After years of pandemic and home office-induced loungewear brands like Cult Gaia and Retrofete bring the desire to shine back, introducing scads of sparkles in their spring collections.
