A Pregnant Rihanna Stuns In Louis Vuitton’s New Speedy Handbag Campaign

The monogrammed Speedy gets a make-over with Rihanna as the featured starlet for Pharrell Williams’ first Louis Vuitton campaign

Pharrell Williams has taken the reins–or more appropriately Louis Vuitton’s leather bag straps to new heights.

Featuring the Speedy, the classic bag gets doused with colour. Cherry reds, yellows, blues, and kelly greens make for a bold palette to fit just about every mood. Shot by Keizō Kitajima and Martine Syms, the campaign scene is electric as Rihanna makes her way through New York City’s bustling Canal Street. The Fenty Beauty founder puts her pregnancy glow on display, carrying a coffee in one hand, and a cluster of reimagined Speedy bags in the other. The vibes are immaculate, affirming baby bumps dressed up, and down are always in style.

As Louis Vuitton’s new Men’s Creative Director, this is Williams’ first campaign following his Spring-Summer 2024 Men’s Show debut in Paris. The attention to detail goes beyond the empowering images first teased on a billboard on the side of the Musée d’Orsay. The bags are crafted from supple-grained leather, allowing for a soft silhouette, a nod to the bag’s storied roots. Originally created by Gaston-Louis Vuitton in 1930, the Speedy has a long history of interrupting the accessory space. With its start as a travel companion in the early 20th century, the bag evolved over time. It is rumored we owe Audrey Hepburn for the Speedy size of today–having made the request for a more wearable size to fit her petite frame.

It’s refreshing to see Williams turning tradition on its head with Louis Vuitton’s top-selling bag. Leading the maison’s vision to intertwine fantasy with function offers up a new lens by which we can be inspired. No stranger to taking risks, we look forward to seeing what’s to come with Williams at the helm.
