Harper’s Bazaar Saudi’s contributing editor Alaa Balkhy takes us along to the brand’s NYFW A/W 2024 show…
New York City is about real estate, finance, food, fashion, and everything else. It keeps surprising you every day – and when you think you’ve seen it all and been everywhere, Fashion Week comes around.
Fashion shows are not just about clothing; the chosen location sets the stage, offering the first glimpse into the theme and inspiration behind a designer’s latest collection. This year, Creative Director Wes Gordon and the Carolina Herrera team selected a truly iconic New York location for their showcase – 180 Maiden Lane. Nestled in the heart of the financial district and overlooking Pier 11, this venue provided the perfect setting with its distinct 1980s allure. Guests were whisked to the 41st floor and greeted with breathtaking views of the city, which served as the ultimate backdrop for the unveiling of the A/W 2024 collection.
“This collection is a celebration of beauty as strength, and strength as beauty. I wanted every woman to feel powerful,” says Wes.
The show opened with a sheer knit turtleneck in Herrera red, ultra-fine merino wool, and skinny pants with a front drape followed by a robust structure suit adorned with gold buttons and a deep v-neck.
These pieces are guaranteed to be seen and worn around the region, in all their glamour and glory. In essence, the collection was not just a presentation of clothing but a celebration of New York’s unparalleled backdrop, the strength found in beauty, and the enduring legacy of Carolina Herrera in empowering women through fashion.
