Arab Designers Dominate At Paris Haute Couture Week

Classy meets cutting-edge meets couture, Paris Couture Week is back and better than ever before…

Paris is buzzing with lights, love, and plenty of luxurious creati. Couture Week is that one (actually two) times a year when every fashion enthusiast pilgrims to the global capital of glitz and glamour.

The interest in handcrafted unique couture using new and innovative as well as long-known traditional techniques has been renewed and fashionistas find a new liking in things handmade with love, making the couture shows the most anticipated events of the season.

Georges Hobeika

Georges Hobeika started off strong on Monday with his show at 12 pm GMT, 3 pm MEST. The Lebanese designer presented a collection joyfully celebrating the concept of real and chosen family. With wife and husband Cynthia Samuel Bakri and Adam Bakri; mother-daughter dup Jessica and Rita Kahawaty; twins Mohammed and Humaid Hadban, and longtime friend of the couture house Leonie Hanne presenting the bedazzled and richly embroidered creations on the catwalk, the show was embodying the concept of family and revisiting ones childhood in a heart-warming way.

Tony Ward Couture

The collection, titled Stardust Voyage, paid homage to the designer’s father, Elie, and his family’s Italian and Lebanese roots. The show that took place on Monday evening at the Palais de Tokyo in Paris, presenting voluminous hats and skirts, intricately stitched flowery motifs, and sculptural elements in both muted and rich colours.

Georges Chakra

Bright yellow and green hues, followed by bold shades in apricot and soft tones in pink. The Georges Chakra couture show was filled with dramatic silhouettes.

Ashi Studio

The SS23 Couture collection Moonlight And Dust by Mohammed Ashi was full of glimmering gowns mirroring the sparkling night sky. Voluminous sleeves and skirts reflected the play of moonlight and shadows in a whimsical way.

Elie Saab

The SS23 Elie Saab couture collection was inspired by the rich culture of Thailand. Intricate embroidery complemented exaggerated bows, casually bound around the neck and falling onto the shoulder of the model. The famed Lebanese designer presented a fairy tale sprung collection, enticing dreams of faraway paradises…

Zuhair Murad

Zuhair Murad is bringing back the glamour and extravaganza of the Belle Epoque and translate them into 2023. His “Exquisite Dynasty” designs were elegantly tailored, conveying a foreign sensuality, leaving the viewer aching for past times.

Rami Al Ali

Syrian designer Rami Al Ali brought softly draped tops and sleeves to the catwalk, dresses that make it seem like the fabric has just fallen from the sky and molded onto the models’ bodies.

Rami Kadi

Mantra was a collection the Lebanese designer Rami Kadi designed with Gaia, the Greek mythological personification of mother the earth, in mind. Turquoise hues reflected the secrets of the ocean; lava red to represent the devouring heat of earth’s very core; and colours so vibrant they seemed to embody the mysteries of nature’s power.
