Arab Fashion Week: Highlights From Day One
Maram Borhan, Giannina Azar and Ihab Jiryis opened the first day of shows…
Dubai Design District (D3) was dripping in glitz and glamour last night as Arab Fashion Week (AFW) drew back the curtains on a luxurious evening filled with creativity, style and the brilliance of regional talent.
Designers from the region and beyond showcased their latest collections, marking the official beginning of the five-day festivities. With combined efforts of the Arab Fashion Council (AFC) and Dubai Design District (d3), the city’s fashion community came together to witness an evening that was clearly inspired by the excellence of haute couture.

Egyptian designer Maram Borhan opened Day One of Arab Fashion Week, wowing the crowd with her bridal pieces and feminine creations, followed by Giannina Azar – a designer from the Dominican Republic who has Lebanese roots – who showcased her bold creations. The evening concluded with Palestinian designer Ihab Jiryis’ latest collection; having a master’s in theatrical and cinema costume, his dramatic flair shone through within his creations. Dubai-based Tunisian model, Ameni Esseibi, walked the show. A true trailblazer, Ameni is the Arab Fashion Council’s first plus-sized ambassador.

While the shows took place in-person at D3, there was a strong digital presence to the evening as the shows were broadcast live on Facebook and Instagram, due to AFC partnering with Meta in an attempt to welcome a new era of fashion presentation.

The anticipation for the next four days is high; check back soon for more updates on Arab Fashion Week Women’s A/W 2022.
