#StyledByCed: Celebrity Stylist Cedric Haddad On The New IT Colour And How To Dress This Season
From a leather report to the reviving the roots, stylist to the stars and our monthly columnist shines a spotlight on the top red carpet looks, and fashion moments of the month
Reviving The Roots
The ’50s and ’60s: I always called this era ‘The School of Fashion’, and yet again we see the distinctive style and silhouettes that mark these decades making a major comeback. Their essence is timeless, and that’s why they continue to define trends, dominating catwalks. I know I’m biased when it comes to what I consider to be classic, but I’m a proud Brigitte Bardot fan. Even today, her influence is seen everywhere as midi skirts, white poplin shirts, checks, monochromes and florals make our lust-list. Dior, founded in 1947, revisited its early collections for archival inspiration this AW, presenting iconic pieces like the midi skirt, bar jackets, and the simple white shirt. Saint Laurent followed the same path, re-introducing the skirt suit: a wardrobe classic since the ’50s, but giving it a contemporary accent. The Prada show in Milan, meanwhile, was inspired by masculine codes and celebrated the beauty of simplicity.
Clash Of The Tartans
On the catwalks, designers used their imagination to reinterpret this traditional fabric, with its trademark stripes and patterns. Labels like Burberry, Dior, Saint Laurent and Issey Miyake gave their checks a ’50s accent, refreshing both trends in the process.

Leather Report
Leather is one of those fabrics that is considered tricky to innovate with, but the upcoming season sees all the major maisons prove this anachronistic mindset wrong. At Louis Vuitton we saw intricate floral embroidery, while Chanel added delicate camellia petals to coats. Another vanguard was Jil Sander, which played with shape, texture and volume, sending full leather sets down the runway.

Crimson Tide
Red is the new black. It was the hottest hue on the catwalks, evoking seduction, elegance and glamour. All the designers joined in – you’ll have a plethora of choices when it comes to picking the ultimate LRD.

Silver Screen Legends
Designers were looking back, but with a contemporary lens. Elements like full skirts layered over trousers, swing jackets and lace evoked film stars and fashion icons like Grace Kelly and Audrey Hepburn.

Go Natural
Stella McCartney and Rabanne chose to highlight the power of nature with floral and equestrian motifs and shearling stealing the spotlight.
