Life’s A Beach: Chanel Unveils Its Cruise 2022/23 Collection in Monaco
From Paris to the Riviera, the French fashion house ventures to Monte-Carlo to showcase its newest collection…
Chanel unveiled its latest cruise collection inspired by the cosmopolitan beach lifestyle of Monte-Carlo. The current creative director Virginie Viard took this opportunity to give an ode to the unforgettable legacy of her predecessor and mentor, Karl Lagerfeld, citing him as one of her key muses.

Situated in a breathtaking seaside venue located at the Beach Hotel, guests could see a glimpse of Karl’s villa, La Vigie.

Sofia and Roman Coppola directed a teaser trailer placing the pieces in the context of a glamorous, jet-set locale in Monaco, bringing the collection to life through models bathing, enjoying a boat trip, and racing sleek speedboats across the open sea.
The collection demonstrated a sporty feel with a luxurious twist. “There are lots of tweed or silk jumpsuits lined with light terry cloth. Many sequins and flowers shape embroidered plastrons adorning thinly striped long shirt-dresses with white high collars – a nod to Karl –, a sequined midnight blue dress, or backless tops worn over wide-cut trousers,” Virginie notes.

The creative director’s signature style was characterised throughout the collection, from track-ready jumpsuits to loose and flowy chiffon dresses. Bags are designed like tennis racquets and the shiny swimming suits are twisted into asymmetrical black skirts or draped dresses. Chanel’s Cruise 2022 footwear took inspiration from the Monte-Carlo ballet and dancers’ black satin shoes adorned by thin strass buckles.

“Monaco is inherent to the history of Chanel. We have lived so many happy moments there,” Virginie says.
