BAZAAR finds out how the designer of Shay Jewellery balances her fabulous but laid-back life

The day begins at 8:30 A.M. I love to sleep in but I rarely get to do it, I have an automatic alarm clock in my body and I’m usually up early. I get at least eight hours of sleep and the first thing I do when I wake up is check my phone and emails. I then get ready for a morning workout.

8:45 A.M. I walk to a Pilates studio near me or I go for a jog.

10:00 A.M. I jog back home and get ready for the day. I’m pretty speedy in the mornings, so I take a quick shower and spritz myself in Coco Mademoiselle perfume. In the mornings when I’m getting ready I usually listen to a podcast. One in particular is How I Built This by Guz Raz or I listen to CNN and Reuters for news. My personal style is very southern Californian – laid-back elegance. I dress by my mood, I mix and match my Shay jewellery so that it seamlessly transitions me from coffee meetings to a night out. My typical day-to-day outfit is of course jeans and a white T-shirt with Golden Goose sneakers.

Pile ’em high: Shay Jewellery is an ode to more-is-more, avaialable at Aubade

10:30 A.M. I head to the office. My house is in West Hollywood and is very close to work so I try and walk as much as possible. I also like to have some time to decompress and listen to music  whilst I take myself to work. Work bag-wise I use my Dior tote and inside is my Chanel fanny-pack filled with my essential items: ear pods, credit-card holder and lip gloss.

10:45 A.M. Once I get to work, I usually have a banana and a coffee and start looking through my emails. I can’t listen to music when I’m in the office and working as I need full-on slience to really concentrate. I work with a team of people on the daily. We have an open work space so we all talk throughout the day. I’m very much a team-player kind of boss, as long as things are getting done. I travel a lot for work, I feel like the airport is my second home but I do love to travel for vacation as well as for work. I do really love my job – every part of it.

2:00 P.M. I eat my lunch – either salad or sushi – in the office. My favourite lunch dish is a grilled-salmon salad. But when I’m able to eat out I love to go to Cecconi’s which is up the street from our office. I love to cook but rarely get a chance to, but when I do, I look to my mother for recipes – she’s an amazing cook. I try to be healthy but it’s quite hard as I’m a major foodie! my guilty pleasure is Chicken Parmesan.

Modern-day diamonds are a girl’s best friend, as they say, available at Aubade

6:00 P.M. When I leave work, I  go to my sister’s house to visit her kids or go out with my friends; I love going to the restaurant  Craig’s. For the evening I wear leather pants and a tank top, or if I’m going to a dressy event I love a great cocktail dress. Sometimes I spend my evenings entertaining at home – I love to have dinner parties. If I’m not busy going out or having people over in the evenings, I put my ear pods in and go for a walk or put my phone on silent and watch a TV show, usually a great series like Big Little Lies. When I have a day off I like to go to the beach; I head to Malibu and just unwind. I’ve also started to collect art.

11:00 P.M. This is usually when I call it a night. I wash my face, moisturise and jump into bed, but I do love to watch a quick TV show before passing out. The last thing I will do before turning the light out is go on my phone. Sometimes I wake up in the middle of the night and come up with ideas. I write myself emails or sketch and then fall back to sleep. But it’s hard when an idea comes and then just keeps on coming… it means I can’t fall asleep at all, then!
