Dua Lipa and Donatella Versace Debut Their Co-Designed Cruise Collection in Cannes
It’s “La Vacanza” time!
Between producing new music, co-chairing the Met Gala and, now, co-designing a summer collection it’s safe to say Dua Lipa has had an exhilarating few months. The launch of the high summer vacation edit, aptly titled La Vacanza (which is Italian for the vacation), with Italian fashion house Versace marks the “Levitating” singer’s first foray into the world of fashion.
Joining forces with Donatella Versace, the pair have shared a close relationship since 2018 when the brand first dressed Dua in their signature Tresor de la Mer print for her performance at the Brit Awards.
At a press conference ahead of the runway launch in Cannes, the Grammy award-winning singer revealed how the thought of a creative collaboration first emerged on a girls’ night out.
“We decided to do it on a night out in New York,” Dua said.
From there, the pair began working on a vacation edit that took inspiration from the Versace of the nineties (Versace Spring-Summer 1995, to be more specific). Think butterfly and ladybug motifs, metallic emblems and polka dots in a bright, saturated palette. With over 40 styles, from evening gowns and bikinis to terry cotton beachwear, this dreamy collection perfectly encapsulates the essence of Dua’s vibrant personality and the Italian fashion house’s spirit.
For Donatella and Dua, who both love summers, this collection was the perfect way to celebrate the season and its joyful nature. While going over the archives, the global pop-icon discovered that she was drawn “to a lot of the same references (as Donatella) which was such an inspiring and fulfilling process.”
At the show, A-listers such as Irina Shayk, Natasha Poly, Iris Law and Lila Moss walked down the picturesque runway, set between a long pool overlooking the Mediterranean, in a series of vacation-worthy outfits, from terrycloth cover-up dresses and bucket hats to off-shoulder metallic dresses.
