Nafsika Skourti has already accomplished several impressive industry milestones. After graduating from the acclaimed British fashion college, Central Saint Martins in 2012 the young designer then worked at Marchesa, trained in haute couture embroidery at École Lesage and showed an extended version of her graduate collection in Paris which was quickly snapped up - in its entirety - by Hong Kong-based fashion retailers Joyce. No mean feat for even the most seasoned labels.
Debuting in Dubai at Fashion Forward this weekend, the energetic designer, who cultivates her eponymous line with sister Stephanie, will show her A/W17 collection inspired by local elements of life in the UAE and talks Bazaar through some of the key seasonal pieces, below.
"Haifa is the modern day Arab pin-up girl. We all know a girl that's a little bit too overt - all the boys love her and all the girls talk about her. With the current political climate I find it important to celebrate that kind of brashness, because true freedom is actually getting to do whatever you want."
"This collection is rooted in the idea of a midnight rendezvous. What's interesting is everyone who has interacted with this coat cannot help but zip it open. I find that childlike instinct so funny."
"At heart we're an urban brand. Doing something that's sickly sweet and pretty doesn't have enough of a bite for me. So when it came to translating that in embroidery I wanted to achieve something modern and cool. These dresses were inspired by the skyscrapers of Dubai."
"I love this outfit. It's very fashion but its also suggestive."
