Couture S/S17: Alexis Mabille

Mabille returns with a kaleidoscope of colours

If there was one word you would use to describe Alexis Mabille’s foray into couture this season, it would be vivid. Not one to shy away from colour, the French designer proved his prowess when it came to tailoring as organza ruffles in an assortment of volumes filled the runway. From neutrals to neon’s and everything in-between, the kaleidoscope of colours that ensued ensured that every one of his clients was catered for.

With looks that wouldn’t feel out of place at a beauty pageant and perhaps the more paired back gowns a royal affair, Mabille was designing for women who aren’t afraid of making a statement. In fact, a vast majority of the collection gave a nod to lingerie, with dashing’s of lace and sheer overlays competing for the spotlight against peek-a-boo corsets.
Sparkling embellishments and cinched in waists featured in many of the designs, as diamond encrusted crowns and veils in all the shades of the rainbow topped off the looks. A brave showcase for any designer (well after all it is couture), teamed back and paired down many of these gowns will no doubt be big contenders come awards shows
