We’re filing Hannah Syeed firmly under “one to watch”

Following in the footsteps of Max Mara and H&M, who both recently signed Muslim models Halima Aden and Mariah Idrissi respectively, e-tail giants ASOS are the latest fashion brand to sign their first hijabi model.

London-based Hannah Syeed took to Twitter yesterday to announce the news. “So guys I’m gonna be the first hijabi to model for ASOS,” she wrote. As expected, her feed was flooded with messages and well wishes – particularly from young Muslim girls.

So guys I’m gonna be the first hijabi to model for ASOS ……

Syeed replied to one message that asked how she got the job, stating that she was simply contacted by ASOS through Instagram.

I was just contacted through Instagram

Since breaking the news yesterday, the history student has shared sneak peaks into ASOS HQ on her stories.

On closer look at her social media profile (because obvs we went straight to Insta for a good old stalk…!), Syeed seems to have dabbled in modelling here-and-there, working for brands like Shaai, a London-based modestwear and hijab label. She also runs a YouTube channel, where she regularly uploads videos, from make-up tutorials to Q&As.

Such an incredible experience with these beautiful women! Thankyou Anam for the kind words and for giving me this opportunity

Whilst more information is yet to be released from ASOS, you can guarantee we’re filing Hannah Syeed firmly under “one to watch.”
