The Best Looks From Burberry’s February 2017 Show

Here’s what you need to see from last night’s fashion show

Burberry presented its latest see now, buy now show during London Fashion Week last night and it delivered a heavy dose of Victoriana-inspired cool. Models took to the runway (watched by the likes of Penelope Cruz, Lily Donaldson and Suki Waterhouse from the front row) in the brand’s signature silhouettes such as belted trench coats and cosy knits, though the pieces were reimagined for the new season in new materials and colourways. Delicate lace dresses were paired with bold Breton stripes and knitwear in asymmetrical cuts was layered over just about everything whilst boleros were given a high-fashion update in lace and fur. Ruffles were in no short supply, adorning everything from shirts to jackets adding a feminine edge to the otherwise sculptural pieces (no doubt a result of Christopher Bailey having collaborated with the Henry Moore Foundation to celebrate the renowned sculptor’s 40th anniversary). 

There were 79 looks in total that came down the runway, and the presentation took many by surprise given that it was a distinct departure from previous shows. Perhaps the biggest surprise of the evening came with the finale. Models were decked out in Shakespearean- and Medieval-inspired accessories such as ornate chainmail headdresses, chunky fur wraps, oversized (like, really oversized) ruffled collars and incredibly detailed pearl-embellished capes.
