The French fashion house has acquired Groupe Holesco, the brand behind the Duchess of Cambridge and Amal Clooney’s wedding lace

Chanel has acquired the lace maker responsible for a number of famous wedding dresses. Groupe Holesco is the parent company of Sophie Hallette, which created the fabric for the Duchess of Cambridge, Amal Clooney and Angelina Jolie’s big days.

“Chanel confirms its partnership with the House of Sophie Hallette, the tulle- and lace-maker, with a view to bolstering the lace sector in France,” the house announced. “The goal of this collaboration is to preserve the historic lace sector, the pride and rich heritage of the Calais and Caudry region. It also intends to ensure that this exceptional expertise and the invaluable Leavers, these 200-year-old machines that are key to creating extremely fine lace, with its own certification, essential for the demands of haute couture and creative design, remain in France. Chanel’s partnership with the House of Sophie Hallette demonstrates its commitment to a major player in the industry, renowned throughout the world for the quality and unparalleled creativity of its lace and tulle, manufactured with passion since 1887.”

Hallette is not only behind some of the most famous wedding lace in the world, but also creates it for many designer labels, including Valentino, Burberry and Alexander McQueen.
