Lebanese Designer Launches New Collection Called ‘Desert Phoenix’

Meet Lebanese designer Charbel Karam, who just recently launched his new collection under the name of “Desert Phoenix.” Perfectly fitting its name, Karam’s latest collection consists of desert sandy colors highlighted with gold. The collection, which features 16 pieces and a beautiful wedding dress, is characterized by hand embroidered fabric, tulles and flying chiffon.
In a short Q&A, Bazaar asks Karam what drew him into the fashion world, what inspires him and more. Read the full interview below:
Harper’s Bazaar Arabia: What drew you into the fashion world?
Charbel Karam: “As a combination of my passion for drawing and fashion since I was a child, I went to London, the capital of culture where I developed my unique talent and style along with studying and working in famous fashion houses. This experience grew my enthusiasm to have my own fashion house so I can create my ideas in my own world.”
HBA: What inspired your “Desert Phoenix” collection?
Charbel Karam: “Living in the region always reminds me of our history, rituals and culture. Amazed by this heritage, I always find beauty in small details, in our nature and beautiful creature, and the desert was always an inspiring universe for me with its secrets and what is more inspiring than the desert phoenix who wander the golden sands with pride symbolizing majesty at its best.”
HBA: What makes your collection stand out from others?
Charbel Karam: “With every collection, I compete with myself to create a new story, to fulfill a new dream. The ‘Desert Phoenix’ made me put aside all challenges and dive into my own world, a world of art, peace, a world of luxury to create a collection that reflects glory, beauty and majesty at its best.”
HBA: Who are your customers?
Charbel Karam: “Every woman who wants to look different, every woman who’s not afraid of showing her true self. The independent, the strong, the sophisticated, the classy and the chic lady.”
HBA: What has been the difficult part about building your brand?
Charbel Karam: “To have a distinctive brand wasn’t easy. Away from designs repetition, I had to satisfy the taste of every customer by making her feel unique and different. I believe my infinite imagination and my persistence always helped me to go forward achieve wonders.”
