Dolce & Gabbana Shoot New Abaya Campaign In Dubai
The Italian duo headed to the souk for sartorial inspiration
Set amongst the spice and jewellery stores on Souk Street in old Dubai, Dolce & Gabbana showcased their latest abaya collection with a little help from Dubai-based model and personal shopper Faten Ezzat who took a staring role in the colourful campaign. The second line of modest-wear from the fashion house features their signature floral and lace embellishments on traditional black abaya styles with batwing sleeves and matching headscarves.
Shot by the Morelli brothers, the images feature the diverse cast of models showing off the latest collection paired in some shots with the hijab and some without, whilst interacting with the traditionally-dressed souk vendors and at one point taking a tour of the bustling toursit hotspot via a bicyle. Possibly inspired by their November visit to the UAE to open their flagship boutique in Mall of the Emirates, Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana were clearly besotted with the charm of old Dubai as they used it to frame not one, but two of their new launches.
Matching the energetic spirit of the abaya campaign, the heavily printed #DGMambo collection, which also features abayas and hijabs, was captured in the souk as the models danced and laughed their way down the main entrance of the market and linking arms as they explored old Dubai, clearly capturing the attention of some of the local store owners as they went.
The casting of popular Instagram stars such as Faten is no oversight from the Italian house as they are bringing back an entire runway of millenial influencers for their much-anticipated A/W17 runway show. Amongst these will be Lana El Sahley, the Middle Eastern influencer and one of Bazaar’s Best Dressed 2017 who will take to the catwalk with Sarah Snyder, Austin Mahone and more young Hollywood talent.
