The Arab Fashion Council has begun a campaign to combat the coronavirus pandemic

In an initiative by the Arab Fashion Council to create a new ‘emergency network’, fashion designers, cosmetic brands and other manufacturers have been asked to create Personal Protection Equipment (PPE) for medical professionals in the UAE. This includes protective gear such as gowns and surgical masks, as well locally sourced sanitisers.

The #thread4cause campaign aims to ease the strain on hospitals dealing with high numbers of COVID-19 patients. The Dubai Health Authority has endorsed the initiative and the products created will have to go through an approval process with the DHA to ensure they comply with legislations. Egyptian-born designer Marmar Halim was the first to lend his support.

“We are in this together, and we will be out of it together. #thread4cause is a very inspiring and heartwarming initiative that demonstrates how the fashion industry goes beyond showcasing a beautiful collection and extends its talent power in supporting the community in times of need. We are very proud and grateful of our Arab Fashion Industry members who are committed to giving back to their community and joining hands in such a creative force,” Jacob Abrian, CEO and founder of the Arab Fashion Council, said.
