Just In Time For Ramadan, Dior Unveils A Gilded Capsule Collection
The French fashion house adds a precious touch to dressing for the Holy Month, with an exclusive collection only available in the Middle East
Gold by name and gold by nature, Dior has been aligned with the shade of this precious metal from the earliest days of the design house – dating back to the first Haute Couture pieces by Christian Dior himself in 1949, in the form of the Golconde dress and the Pactole silhouette – the ‘golden oldies’, if you will.
The classic hue has remained a constant for Dior’s clothes and accessories collections ever since, be it through heavy embellishment, more sumptuous sparkles or in full looks as was seen during Marc Bohan’s tenure as artistic director with the Pépite dress in lamé jacquard, and the sleek, luminous gown worn by actress Lauren Hutton in the 1982 film All Fired Up.

The most memorable use of gold comes from John Galliano’s S/S 04 Haute Couture collection, displayed as a symbol of opulence and exuberance through the pharaohs of Egypt – boldly worn head-to-toe.
And this exceptional metal is visited once again for the Dior Gold capsule for Ramadan 2021. Maria Grazia Chiuri draws inspiration from her S/S 20 Haute Couture fashion show and delves into pieces from her S/S 21 ready-to-wear presentation to produce a gilded collection that is exclusive to her Middle Eastern clients from April 1st.

The artistic director has reinterpreted classic styles and enhanced the looks with a touch of gold, revisiting dresses and ethereal skirts in tulle, silk or multi-coloured mesh, as well as reinventing the J’Adior 8 T-shirt and including the beautifully sculpted Dior Palto jacket that she revealed at the S/S 21 ready-to-wear show.

The new collection pieces are inspired by a Dior archive that is rich with heavy metals
A host of iconic bags are also given the gold treatment for the capsule collection – appearing in soft hues, among them the Dior Book Tote, the Lady Dior and the Saddle. The new Dior Caro is dressed in signature gold cannage and embellished with a chain of repeating ‘CD’ links, finely embroidered with metallic threads.

Gilded ornamentation is also found on the DiorTravel vanity, the J’Adior pumps, Walk’n’Dior sneakers, Dway mules and Dior Granville espadrilles, as well as on a number of refined accessories that include a stole, bracelet, and belt signed Christian Dior. It’s time to refresh and rejoice with the most precious of metals for the Holy Month.
The Dior Gold capsule is available from April 1st in all Dior boutiques in the Middle East, within dedicated pop-ups, as well as in a pop-up store in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. The collection is also available on the Dior website in the United Arab Emirates: shop-couture.dior.ae
